16 June 2023 – The Kosova’s National Team drew without goals against Romania in the third match of the qualifying cycle for Euro 2024. Kosova had many chances to score and even sent the ball into the net. However,, the joy of the fans at the “Fadil Vokrri” stadium was stopped by VAR, which annulled the Dardanians goal. The match took place on the field, which was very difficult to play on due to heavy rain before and during the match.
The Dardanians dominated the game but the chances of Florent Muslija, Vedat Muriqi and Bersant Celina in the first half were not finalized. Kosova also had good chances in the second half when Mërgim Vojvoda and Edon Zhegrova had clean chances to score but they were not effective. In the 69th minute, the stadium erupted in joy when Edon Zhegrova scored with a header after Bersant Celina’s cross. However, the Dutch referee, Danny Makkelie disallowed the goal for offside after a VAR review. Kosova was close to the goal even in the extra minutes, when Zhegrova, after breaking into the area, put Vedat Muriq in a good position but he shot over the goal.
For the Dardanians this is the third draw in this qualifying campaign, after they drew with Israel and Andorra in March. Kosova plays its next match on Monday against Belarus in Budapest.
