20 March 2024 – The Kosova U19 National Team started the qualifying tournament for the 2024 European Championship with a victory. The Dardanians defeated Austria of this age group at the TSC Trate Gornja Radgona stadium in Slovenia on Wednesday with 1:0 in the Group 1 of the “Elite Round”.

In the first half, Dardanians did not create many chances but still the goalkeeper of Kosova, Erion Avdija, managed to save the penalty in the 23rd minute.

The young Dardanians found the goal they were looking for at the beginning of the second half. In the 49th minute, the striker of Llapi, Elvir Gashijani, shot towards Austria’s goal, while the opponent’s defender deflected the ball into the goal and the result changed in favour of Kosova for 1:0.

Despite Austria’s attempts until the end of the match to change the score, Kosova’s defence and goalkeeper Avdija were up to the task and the goal remained intact.

Kosova’s Head Coach Adil Maliqi said that they deserved the victory:

“I am very happy for the win, the staff, and all the players. We deserved this win because we played with passion and heart. I was not very satisfied with the performance but this comes because of only one training session. I expect the performance will be much better against Spain than against Austria. The important thing is that we got three points. I think we deserved the win despite Austria creating more chances than we did. We gave everything and scored”, Maliqi said.

Currently, Kosova is the leader of Group 1 where Austria, Spain, and Slovenia also belong.

The Dardanians will face Spain at the “TSC Trate Gornja Radgona” stadium on 23 March from 1600hrs.
