23 March 2024 – The Kosova U19 National Team lost to the Spanish National Team of this age group with 2:1 in the “TSC Trate Gornja Radgona” stadium in Slovenia, in the second match of the “Elite Round” for qualification to the 2024 European Championship.

Although the Dardanians had a good performance, luck was not on their side. The first half started with several chances for Spain, which in the 34th minute scored through Daniel Munoz. The first half ended with a 1:0 lead for the Spanish team.

The second half started in favor of the opponent. In the 50th minute, Spain deepened the lead to 2:0 through Pol Fortuni.

Then the Kosova’s Head Coach, Adil Maliqi applied some substitutions, in which he introduced footballers Adam Hasani, Arianit Fazlija and Lirim Jashari instead of Igball Jashari, Dior Gërbovci and Elvir Gashijani, while later he also gave Elmedin Rama a chance instead of Diamant Lokaj.

Kosova found the long-awaited goal in the 77th minute when Eliot Bujupi scored to 2:1 with a fantastic shot from the stoppage. Despite the great desire and commitment of the Dardanians to equalize, in the end the match ended with 2:1, as the Spanish defense did not allow space and managed the lead in the remaining minutes.

Head Coach Adil Maliqi was satisfied with the performance of the Dardanians while he affirmed that facing a strong opponent such as Spain, was difficult.

“I am very proud of the boys and their performance. We had a fantastic game today where we had more chances than Spain. We faced an exceptional opponent individually and we have not seen such quality until today. They are worth millions but we have faced them with football, refusing to defend ourselves. We played attractive football, created many chances and this keeps me hopeful because playing against an opponent like Spain, you grow. On Tuesday, we will play for victory, we will give everything and if we win and everything goes the way we want, we will probably qualify”, Maliqi said after the match.

The third match within the qualifying tournament, Kosova U19 will play against Slovenia on Tuesday, 26 March from 12:00 o’clock at the “Sportni Park Lendava” stadium in Slovenia. Kosova needs a victory over the Slovenians but also a draw or victory of Austria in duel with Spain, to achieve the historic success – the European qualification.
